1. Theoretical aspects of Organizational
structure 1) U-form (Functional structure) A. Definition - Design that
groups people on the basis of their common expertise and experience or because
they use the same resources.
B. Advantages - Functional structure
develops first and foremost because it provides people with the opportunity to
learn from one another and become more specialized and productive. - People
who are grouped together by common skills can supervise one another and control
each other’s behavior. - People in a function who work closely with each
other over extended time periods develop norms and values that allow them to
become more effective at what they do.
C. Disadvantages - Control
problems : As the organization’s skills and abilities increase and the
organization is able to produce a better or wider variety of goods or services,
the organization’s ability to service the needs of its growing product line is
strained.
